Should we know what we eat?

From ancient times people thought about healthy eating. We can make certain of that if we have a look at treatises of ancient philosophers and thinkers. Some of them considered food a basis for one's physical improvement and spiritual development. They all have different approaches to food but they stood for rational and reserved attitude to food, because they considered it to be the only way to preserve mental and physical health.
Nowadays we don't need to be philosophers or thinkers to learn all the truth about the food we eat. All possible information on this topic is available to us. We can learn everything we want about any food product. Strange as it may be, but we sometimes feel that we don't need this information in order to remain calm. We think that our consciousness is overloaded with different negative information about our life and all possible threats. Thus we sometimes try to escape from this truth, as it is sometimes sad. We prefer not to notice all threats which we are told about our food. There are various reasons for that. One of them lies in the fact that the tastiest food is the most harmful for our health. For example smoked and fried, roasted, and grilled food can provoke cancer, gastric ulcer, stomach and intestinal upset, etc. The second reason is that some types of harmful food are very easy to prepare. It applies to various half-finished products which are very opportune in our modern life. Our modern rhythm doesn't allow us to spend much time for preparation of food and later we suffer from consequences after eating this staff for long time.
These consequences can be very serious. Products which have been cultivated, cooked or stored improperly can cause great harm. At present cattle is fed by antibiotics, plant products are sprayed by chemicals, the soil is contaminated and water is polluted. For all that we still try to fail to learn full information about what we eat. For example, we have already heard that artificial additives and sugar substitutes that are included in many food products can do a lot of harm; we have also heard about genetically modified products and about the supposed harmful effect they can cause. At first we are shocked by these facts, but then we prefer to think that we have no other ways out and go on eating these products. The fact that we don't observe any direct and immediate harmful effect lulls our vigilance and we refuse to think about bad things and thus soothe ourselves.
It is up to you to decide what to eat and how much to eat. It's your own choice and no one is allowed to point you how to live your life. But it would be better for you to be informed and make this choice consciously. At first learn the truth about what you eat and then decide whether to eat it or not!
